Depression: It's a very common disorder affecting millions of people. Everyone occasionally feels sad or down, and these feelings usually go away within a couple of days. However, simply put, depression is sadness that lasts longer and interferes with your day-to-day life (i.e. relationships, work, school etc.). Other symptoms of depression include increased or decreased appetite and/or sleep, poor energy, decreased motivation and interest in pleasurable activities, feeling worthless or hopeless/helpless. Alcohol or drug use is also common among those with depression.
How Do You Experience Depression?: Depression can be a mild unhappiness or severe enough to cause self-harm or suicide. Women tend to experience depression as sadness, worthlessness, or guilt. Men are more likely to experience depression as fatigue, irritability/ anger, losing interest in pleasurable activities, or sleep problems.
